I recently recalled an amazing and powerful inner journey I enjoyed in a group regression a few years back. Prior to our journey the facilitator had us breathing to our pineal gland. This is a practise that activates the third eye chakra, our energy centre connected to expanded inner vision. I feel this was pivotal to my inner experience being so visually clear and emotionally impactful. It’s got me thinking that we need to put some attention on this important little gland to support our inner seeing, knowing, journeying, sleep, dreaming and intuition.
The pineal gland is a pea-sized organ that sits behind and above the pituitary gland in the centre of our brain. It’s bathed in cerebrospinal fluid and has more blood flow than any other body organ. That means there’s a lot of energy vibing up this important little gland. Its most well-known function is producing and secreting the hormone melatonin which regulates our sleep/wake cycles. Melatonin is also great for anti-aging and anti-stress as it suppresses cortisol and is an antioxidant.
Not so well known is that the pineal also manufactures some of the body’s serotonin (serotonin is actually a precursor to melatonin) It’s been said it also secretes the consciousness expanding biochemical DMT. Dr. Rick Strassman, psychiatrist, and author of ‘DMT: The Spirit Molecule’ says DMT facilitates the soul’s movement in and out of the body and is an integral part of the birth and death experience. DMT is taken in synthetic form for hallucinogenic experiences. If we learn how to have a healthy pineal gland more expanded spiritual experiences could occur with naturally occurring DMT.
So how can we achieve an activated happy pineal gland that supports journeying, dreaming, sleeping and inner seeing?
Here’s an extensive list of tips:
- Artificial light has been implicated in a lack of melatonin and DMT production. Do your best to work with the rhythms of natural light. For nighttime keep the lights low, dimmed or use candles.
- The pineal gland is sensitive to electromagnetic frequency. Minimise your exposure (and proximity) to all things electrical. Keep your cell phone away from your head.
- When the heart is activated with love and compassion its frequency is expanded. The pineal gland will then harmonise with the heart which amplifies its own energy field. This heightened vibration can stimulate the third eye to activate, so think Love and compassion!
- The pineal is highly responsive to focused breathing. This light energy will radiate into the calcifications and brighten the energy field of the pineal.
- Tapping your forehead in between your eyebrows activates the pineal by sending a vibrational wave directly back to the pineal gland, activating it in the process.
- Breathe to the pineal gland.
- Toning or chanting sends vibrations into the brain, activating the pineal and other glands. Chant Om – the third vibration in this three-part sound vibrates into the head area.
- Laughter sends vibrations into the body. The particular tone of laughter dictates which organs resonate and are subsequently stimulated. I imagine a high kind of laughter that stimulates the organs within the brain.
- Focusing our attention directs energy. Focus on the pineal.
- Drink plenty of water, hydration is important for optimal health of all the glands and organs in the body.
- Eat more foods containing tryptophan. It’s the protein that creates melatonin and serotonin. It’s available as a supplement and is great for anxiety. It’s in these foods – nuts, seeds, tofu, cheese, red meat, chicken, turkey, fish, oats, beans, lentils and eggs.
- Avoid substances that calcify the pineal gland – fluoride, additives, pesticides, sugar and artificial sweeteners.
- Detoxify and purify with raw cacao, goji berries, garlic, lemons, watermelon, bananas, honey, coconut oil, hemp seeds, coriander, seaweed, honey, chlorella, spirulina, blue-green algae, raw apple cider vinegar, ginseng, Vitamin D and chlorophyll.
- Stimulate the pineal with these essential oils – lavender, sandalwood, frankincense and cedarwood.
- Meditate.
- Visualize your pineal gland as vital and energised.
- Sun gaze – the practice of staring into the sun at sunrise and sunset is an age-old technique used by yogis and tribal people for stimulating the pineal gland. This is only to be done in the first and last hour of the day when the UV rays are lowest. Be barefooted, on the earth to ground any excess sun rays. It’s recommended to start with just 10 seconds and slowly build by adding 10 seconds per day.
- Use purple, indigo, violet and clear crystals on your third eye area. Amethyst, lapis, sodalite, clear quartz and tourmaline are some of the more common stones in these colours.
- Imagine you are breathing purple, indigo or violet energy to the pineal.
- Try a float tank. They disconnect us from the senses as we are in complete darkness. It’s widely thought this is highly beneficial for arousing the pineal gland to stimulate DMT.
- Use a program such as Flux on your computer and phone to block artificial blue screen light at night-time. It creates a warm light that doesn’t interfere with melatonin production.
I wish you a clear, energised pineal gland so you can have amazing inner journeying experiences, fabulous sleep and a healthy third eye chakra.
